Park Shooting Incident in Chillicothe Released after Several Months of Investgations

Chillicothe, Ohio – February 1, 2025 — A shooting incident that occurred on the evening of January 31, 2025, near Yoctangee Park was under investigation, with three juvenile suspects charged and a firearm recovered by local authorities.

Officers were dispatched to the floodwall near the Pump House after reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, they made contact with Aaron Trisler, the alleged victim, who reported being shot at by three male juveniles while attempting to confront them for knocking over his trash cans. According to a witness, he pursued the suspects in his gray 2011 Honda Accord and was shot at twice during the confrontation. The Witness’s car was struck by at least one bullet, which allegedly ricocheted off the vehicle.

Following the incident, officers were able to locate three juveniles matching the suspects’ descriptions near a dog park along the recreational trail. They were detained and transported to the Chillicothe Police Station for questioning.

During interviews, the juveniles—identified as Brandon Newsom, Chance Tomblin, and Robert Horsley Jr.—admitted to being present during the altercation but did not provide direct information about who fired the gun. Horsley, who was reportedly wearing a gray jacket and a black mask during the shooting, was suspected of being the shooter based on witness statements.

Officers also conducted a K9 search in an attempt to locate the firearm, which was later found by K9 Rin in the woods near the dog park. The black Taurus PT11 pistol, which contained 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition, was seized for further investigation.

The three juveniles were charged with

2923.12 – Carrying Concealed Weapons
2903.11 – Felonious Assault
531.02 – MINORS CURFEW HOURS.

In a separate development, authorities discovered that witness had outstanding warrants for domestic violence and assault, which were served during the investigation. He was subsequently transported to the Ross County Jail.
