A Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to prison for his role in a 2022 drug bust that followed a traffic stop in Pickaway County. The arrest stemmed from a May 10, 2022, incident when a routine stop led to the discovery of fentanyl and cash.
According to Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey, at approximately 1:55 p.m. on that day, Sgt. Stephen Harger was patrolling US 23 near the intersection with US 22 when he observed a Ford F-150 traveling well above the posted speed limit. Sgt. Harger conducted a traffic stop and noticed several criminal indicators, prompting him to call Cpl. Morningstar to the scene for assistance.
Both deputies reported detecting the strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Upon conducting a search of the Ford F-150, officers discovered approximately 38 grams (1 1⁄2 ounces) of fentanyl and over $1,700 in cash.
Dante Lee Johnson, 31, of Pennsylvania, was arrested and charged with possession of a fentanyl-related compound. He was subsequently sentenced to 3 to 4 ½ years in prison, with a $1,795 forfeiture and a $7,500 fine.
Sheriff Hafey praised the teamwork of law enforcement and their vigilance in addressing drug-related crimes in the region.
