WASHINGTON, Aug. 16, 2024 — Perdue Foods LLC, headquartered in Perry, Georgia, has announced a voluntary recall of approximately 167,171 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast nuggets and tenders due to potential contamination with metal. The recall affects several products produced on March 23, 2024, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The affected products are:

  • 22-ounce packages of “PERDUE Simply Smart ORGANICS Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets” with a “Best If Used By” date of March 23, 2025.
  • 29-ounce packages of “PERDUE Chicken Breast Tenders” with the same “Best If Used By” date.
  • 22-ounce packages of “BUTCHERBOX Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets” also marked with the “Best If Used By” date of March 23, 2025.

Each package bears the establishment number “P-33944” on the back and was distributed nationwide to retail locations and sold online.

The recall was initiated after Perdue Foods received consumer complaints about metal wire embedded in the chicken products. The company subsequently notified FSIS, prompting the recall.

To date, there have been no confirmed reports of injuries or illnesses linked to the contaminated products. However, FSIS advises consumers who have purchased these items to avoid consuming them. The products should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase for a refund.

FSIS conducts regular checks to ensure that recalled products are removed from the market and that consumers are properly informed. Updates, including a list of affected retailers, will be available on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
