PICKAWAY – PICCA is offering free drive up produce this Thursday May 14, 2020.
(PICCA) Pickaway County Community Action Organization is a non-profit agency set up to empower people of poverty to become self-sufficient and improve their quality of life.
PICCA has changed their produce pick up to a drive thru method that makes it easier for families to navigate through the COVID-19 epidemic.
“The fresh produce program we started about three years ago, its free fresh produce for anyone who is 200% of poverty or less, that’s about 80% of Pickaway county residents. So for the most part if your curious or in need of free produce you qualify. I encourage people to come out and get fresh produce, especially our seniors. We have people trying to offset a limited income, and this doesn’t cost anything its free. Its a really good program we don’t always know what we are going to get we get sweet corn, apples, potatoes, zucchini, onions, you name it we’ve had it come through. It’s through Mid Ohio Foodbank, we have distributed over 200,000 pounds of produce last year in Pickaway County and served 14,000 people. We would like to see those numbers grow here in Pickaway County, we are trying to bring more food into the area to feed people,” said PICCA.
Fresh produce starts at 9:30 am on May 14, 2020 it usually last about two hours before its all gone.
