Circleville, OH – March 2025 – A registered child sex offender living within 1,000 feet of a school property in Circleville has voluntarily relocated following an investigation by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office and Pickaway County Prosecutor’s Office.

The situation came to light in early January 2025, when a concerned resident reported that Jajuon Lamont Poindexter had moved to 180 Fairview Blvd, Circleville, OH 43113, a location within the restricted proximity to a school, which violates Ohio law 2950.034. The law prohibits sex offenders from residing within 1,000 feet of school property, and legal action can be taken to enforce compliance.

Upon investigation, Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey determined that the Offender Watch program, the statewide sex offender registry system, had outdated Geographic Information System (GIS) data for Pickaway County. This discrepancy initially led officials to believe the residence was compliant. However, after updates were made to the GIS system over the past two months, it was confirmed that Poindexter’s residence violated the law.

Following notification from law enforcement, Poindexter voluntarily relocated to a new residence to comply with Ohio Sex Offender Registration Laws, avoiding the need for legal action.

Authorities have assured the public that the updated GIS data will help prevent similar oversights in the future. The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office and Offender Watch technicians have worked to ensure accurate mapping for all registered sex offenders moving forward.

Community members are encouraged to stay informed and report concerns regarding registered sex offenders through official channels.
