Circleville, Ohio – Boy Scout Troop 5170 made an unforgettable impression at the 2025 Winter Klondike, held at Beaumont Scout Reservation in the Lake Erie Council over the weekend of January 18th, 2025.
The Roundtown Patrol from the troop embarked on a three-and-a-half-hour journey to the event on Friday and settled into a cozy cabin heated by pot belly stoves. The theme of this year’s Klondike was electricity, presenting unique challenges and activities that captured the scouts’ curiosity and tested their skills.
Throughout the weekend, the scouts participated in 16 electrifying activities, including:
- First aid
- Linemen rescue at the COPE course near the climbing tower
- Electric Slide (the dance)
- Chocolate welding
- Building an electromagnet to complete a challenge
- Solving a breaker box riddle
- Fire building
- Tripod lashing
- Rifle shooting
- Archery
- Circuit orienteering
- Hanging a gear bag (like a bear bag)
- Dutch oven cook-off
The scouts’ efforts culminated in an exciting auction where they used points earned throughout the day’s activities to bid on scout-related items. This not only reinforced their skills but also fostered camaraderie and teamwork.
The diversity within the troop was evident as younger scouts honed their skills, while the older scouts practiced their leadership abilities, ensuring the event’s success. Troop 117 participates in a Winter Klondike event every year, and our scouts are already looking forward to the next one!
