CIRCLEVILLE, OH — In a surprising turn of events, the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office announced today that the Grinch has been granted a furlough, as ordered by Circleville Municipal Court Judge Elisa Peters.
In a court entry filed under Case No. 12-25-2024, Judge Peters reviewed the Grinch’s request for release from the Pickaway County Jail, where he has been held on a charge of Theft of Christmas Cheer, a first-degree misdemeanor. Following a thorough evaluation by Santa Claus, it was determined that the Grinch’s heart had “grown three sizes,” leading to the court’s decision.
The judge granted the Grinch a special release to participate in the Light Up the Sky 2024 Christmas Parade, aimed at rekindling his Christmas spirit. The entry stipulates that he must be accompanied by a uniformed officer at all times during the furlough and must return immediately after the event.
The court has also mandated a re-evaluation upon his return to assess his heart size and determine whether he has sufficiently embraced the spirit of the season. Should he demonstrate true change, including a written essay on the meaning of Christmas, the Grinch may be released on a recognizance bond by December 24, 2024.
As the community prepares for the holiday celebrations, the Grinch’s story serves as a reminder of the power of redemption and the spirit of giving, capturing the true essence of the Christmas season.
