According to OSP, the fatal shooting was accidental and occurred during a training exercise when a Lieutenant was inadvertently shot in the chest, leading to his collapse.
The fallen officer was identified as Lt. Rodney Osborn, a highly respected member of law enforcement who had recently been honored as Correction Officer of the Year. With 13 years of dedicated service under his belt, Lt. Osborn was an integral part of the Special Response Team (SRT) unit.
