Pickaway County – A man has been charged with trafficking after a simple traffic stop yield drugs.

A Pickaway County Deputy pulled over a vehicle on US-23 near the rest stop on March 3rd for a malfunctioning rear license plate light. During the stop, the driver, Nathan Thatcher, was found to be driving without a license.

The officer’s suspicions were raised due to Mr. Thatcher’s behavior and inconsistent statements, leading him to believe the driver might be involved in illegal activity beyond the traffic violation. A K-9 unit was called in, and the dog alerted to the presence of narcotics near the vehicle.

A subsequent search yielded two bags containing 6.6 grams of suspected fentanyl and an unknown white substance. Mr. Thatcher was arrested and faces charges related to drug possession and driving without a license. The recovered substances will be analyzed further, and the investigation remains ongoing.
