CIRCLEVILLE – Steve Gary of The Savings Bank recently took a good ribbing in the name of charity at the inaugural Pickaway Leadership Roast. On Thursday, he delivered the proceeds of his good sportsmanship to three chosen causes.
Representatives of Haven House, The Emergency Clearinghouse Food Pantry and Pickaway County 4-H each received a $2,000 check to be used at their discretion for their programs’ needs.
“There are a lot of worthy causes in Pickaway County, but I have a soft spot for these,” Gary said.
He said his family has been involved in 4-H for 55 years, and he continues to support the organization because it helps the youth in the community.
The Emergency Clearinghouse earns his praise and support, he said, for its role in helping the less fortunate.
And Haven House, the shelter for battered women and children, made the list because it does both.
“The bank and I have been involved in Haven House since day one,” Gary said.
In addition to the proceeds from the auction conducted during the Roast held Jan. 24, Gary said he and his family support these causes privately, as well.
The Pickaway Leadership Roast kicked off this year and is planned as an annual event to honor an individual’s leadership in the community, provide grants to his or her chosen programs and have fun doing it.
The event was hosted by the Leadership for Tomorrow Fund of the Pickaway Competitiveness Network, a function of the Pickaway County Community Foundation. Its programming efforts include the Pickaway Fellows program, the Board Candidate Pool and Networking Roundtables.
The inaugural Leadership Roast was supported by The Savings Bank, Berger Health System and Ohio Christian University. Auction items and services were donated by Precision Jewelers, Country Acres Auction Company, Rick and Judy Clifton, Brad and Jan Shannon, Gayle Spangler, Giant Eagle Market Place, Judy Gary and A Moment In Time Studio.
The Leadership for Tomorrow Advisory Board includes Sereana H. Dresbach, chair, and members Gayle Spangler, Jayme Fountain, Michele Lanman, Louis McFarland, Tim Wilson, Jan Shannon, Melissa Betz, Greg Bryant, Jama Cobb and Joyce Tatro-Manes.
