Barbara A. Kuhner

Barbara Ann (Carpenter) Kuhner, age 87, of Ashville, passed away peacefully on Feb. 4, 2016.

She was born on Jan. 29, 1929, in Chillicothe, to the late Harry and Vernie (Robinson) Carpenter.

She graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1947.

On Jan. 14, 1949, she married Harvey “Red” Kuhner, who predeceased her on Jan. 28, 2007. Also preceding Barbara in death are brothers, Harold and Paul Carpenter; a sister-in-law, Betty Jane Carpenter; and a brother-in-law, Marlin Anderson.

Barbara enjoyed working at the Chillicothe Telephone Company for 25 years, where she met several life-long friends before moving to Sun City, Arizona. She and Harvey shared many wonderful years together in Arizona, where again she met several friends she cherished her entire life.

After Harvey’s passing, Barbara moved back home and resided at Louise Terrace, where she enjoyed spending time with many dear friends, having potlucks, playing cards and the visits from area schools and organizations. She loved helping others in any way she could, swimming, playing cards and board games, children of all ages and noodles!

Barbara is survived by a brother Gail (Janice) Carpenter; a sister, Janice (John) Pinkerton; and a sister-in-law, Jean Ann (Stan) Carpenter Haycook. Also surviving Barbara are nieces and nephews, Beth Ann Courtney (Keith Garrison), Susie (Jim) Pini and Chris Carpenter, whom she lovingly called her “kids,” Toni Lynn Carpenter, Greg Carpenter, David (Dawn) Carpenter, Scott (Sheri) Carpenter, and Kent (Sally) Anderson; many great nieces and great nephews; and very “special” cousins. Although only cousins, Barbara was like a sister to Linda Mithoff and an aunt to Tom, Jenni, Alli, Brad, Megan and Branson Payne.

Barbara attended Village Chapel United Methodist Church, where she professed her faith in God. She enjoyed worship, activities and fellowship there with her church family.

There will be a memorial service for family and friends celebrating Barbara’s life at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at Village Chapel United Methodist Church, 30 Circleville Ave., Ashville. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ware Funeral Home, Chillicothe.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Village Chapel Scholarship Fund.
