Edward M. Coughenour Sr., age 91, of Florida, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016.

He was born in Gallia as an only child to the late Otho and Faye (Pullins) Coughenour.

Ed had been farming in the Mt. Sterling community since the early 1950s and continued his love of agriculture in Florida. He was a Florida State champion checker player; Florida Senior Olympic champion bowler; loved shuffle board and was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by parents; wife of 35 years and mother of children, Madge Coughenour; and second wife of 23 years, Viola (Reed) Coughenour.

He is survived by his loving children, son, Ed Coughenour Jr. of Mt. Sterling; daughters, Peggy (Mark) Platt of Gahanna and Joyce (Ronald) Adams of Mt. Sterling; grandchildren, Andrew, Bethany and Rebecca Platt, Dara (Thad) Barker, Angel Monohan, Eric (Chris) Adams and Brad Adams; great-grandchildren Joey Monroe III, Emily, Allyson, Aaron and Aidan Barker, Tronny Monohan and Tyler Adams.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at the Porter-Tidd Funeral Home, Mt. Sterling, Rev. Densil Wright officiating, with the interment following in Pleasant Cemetery where a military service will be performed. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016.
