CHILLICOTHE – With another aggressive construction program under way throughout the state, the Ohio Department of Transportation – District 9’s construction department will cross district lines and team up with the department’s District 6 to administer a trio of its projects – the first of which is slated to begin this week.

“Although we are drawn with district lines, we operate with transparent boundaries, and whether it is in planning and engineering, highway maintenance or construction, district staff from across the state partner with one another whenever there is need,” said Vaughn Wilson, ODOT District 9 deputy director.

With a hefty construction program this year in Pickaway County, including the Court Street Connector in Circleville and U.S. 23 improvements, District 9’s construction department will be administering three of the county’s projects on behalf of District 6. ODOT District 6 borders District 9 to the north and, along with Pickaway, includes Fayette, Union, Madison, Delaware, Marion, Morrow and Franklin counties.

The Pickaway County projects which District 9’s construction department will oversee this year include bridge replacements on S.R. 138 and S.R. 104, and a resurfacing and bridge repair on S.R. 56 and U.S. 22 that is scheduled to begin this week.

Beginning Monday, S.R. 56 will be reduced to one lane between Township Road 181 (Davis Road) and T.R. 182 (Douglas Road), west of S.R. 316, for bridge repair over Clark Run. During this phase of the project, traffic will be maintained in one lane with the use of temporary signals.

The entire project includes resurfacing S.R. 56 from the Madison County line to U.S. 22 west of Circleville, as well as sealing the deck on the bridge over Dry Run near C.R. 24 (Pherson Pike), paving U.S. 22 from S.R. 56 to the Scioto River bridge and sealing the Scioto River bridge deck.

With the exception of the bridge work over Clark Run, where traffic will be controlled by signals, traffic in the remainder of the construction zone will be maintained by flaggers when crews are at work.

The Kokosing Construction Company was awarded a contract in the amount of $2.55 million to complete the 18-mile project, and all work is anticipated to be completed in late summer.
