Investigation continues into 4th of July shooting

CIRCLEVILLE – City police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect in a shooting incident believed to be drug-related on East Main Street on the 4th of July.

The person that reportedly fired a handgun at another subject about 11 p.m. July 4 has only been identified as a light-complected African-American male who fled the scene afterward, according to reports.

Evidence recovered at the scene will be examined by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, according to Chief Shawn Baer, Circleville Police Department.

The incident occurred about 11:04 p.m. July 4 when the city police department and Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls reporting gun shots in the area of 302 E. Main St.

Officers responded and found several individuals had been involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical.

The victim of the shooting was treated and released for a non-life-threatening gun shot wound to the leg.

This case remains under investigation, and police are encouraging anyone who might have information about this incident to contact investigators at 740-477-8246.
