LAURELVILLE – A Kingston man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday on Route 56 East just outside the Laurelville village limits.

Raymond A. Smith, 58, of Kingston, was declared dead at the scene by Dr. John Ellis, Pickaway County Coroner.

According to reports from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Smith was traveling westbound on Route 56 about 6:09 p.m. in a Toyota Camry when he crossed over the center line, went off the left side of the roadway and struck an embankment.

The vehicle flipped over the embankment and landed on its top on the opposite side.

Troopers said Smith was not wearing a seat belt but remained inside the vehicle upon impact. Alcohol is considered to be a factor in the crash, according to reports.

EMS crews from the Laurelville Fire Department handled rescue efforts at the scene, along with Saltcreek/Tarlton Fire Department and Colerain EMS.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
