Leota Ruth Stevens, 93, of South Bloomingville, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, July 30, 2016.
She was born Sept. 2, 1922, in Hocking County, the daughter of Chloe and Lola (Kneece) Wiggins.
She was married to Chester Stevens.
Leota was a member of Salt Creek Valley Community Church, where she played guitar and mandolin for many years. She loved to visit other churches and sang at many funerals in the area.
Leota loved to hunt, fish and dig Ginseng. She would hunt mushrooms and could tell you a good story behind every hunt. She would go with her family riding through the woods on their four wheelers. She loved God’s great outdoors.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chloe and Lola Wiggins; husband, Chester Stevens; son, Damon Stevens; sister, Gayle Anderson Truex; brothers-in-law, Harold Jinks, Gilbert Anderson, Joe Truex and Lester Whitcraft; and by a niece, Sheila Anderson.
Leota is survived by sister, Wavelene Whitcraft; granddaughters, Toni Lines and Dawn (George) Sheppard; great grandchildren, Brittany Kempton, Montanna Roister, Charlie Sheppard and Wendi Lines; daughter-in-law, Shirley Stevens; a special lady, April Bailes, he called her grandma too; 97-year-old aunt, Maggie Tisdale; special niece and nephew, Drema and Rick Williams, who were with her ’til her home-going; and by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, at Saltcreek Valley Community Church with Reverends James Vandagriff and Mark Rosser officiating. Burial will be in Green Summit Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Wellman Funeral Home, Laurelville.
