William R. Sherman, age 86, of Ashville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at Brookdale Lakeview Crossing in Groveport.
He was born in Ashville to the late Walden and Dorothy (Smith) Sherman.
Bill was a graduate of Walnut High School, Class of 1947, and was a member South Bloomfield United Methodist Church.
He served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army and was a member of Rick Brown Memorial VFW Post in South Bloomfield.
He retired as a superintendent from AEP Groveport Power Plant after 40 years.
Bill was a devoted and loving family man and had a strong Christian faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Coral Adele (Morrison), on Sept. 15, 2010; son-in-law, Albert Smith; brothers, Lee, Charles, Roy, Delbert and Gene; and sisters, Barbara Neff, Beulah Jones, Lillian Sherman and Maxine Althaus.
He is survived by daughter, Carol L. Smith of Pickerington; sons, Brad (Pam) Sherman of West Milton and Brent (Kendra) Sherman of Ashville; grandchildren, Travis (Jill) Teets, Albert (Kyndall) Smith and Anya Smith, Adam (Sarah) Sherman and Claire Sherman, Matthew Horner and Rachel Horner, Grant, Zachary and Caden Sherman; great-grandchildren, Rachel (Mike) Colletti, Tristan Teets, Jayden and Emmy Smith and Ethan Sherman; sisters, Martha Martin of Circleville, Sylvia Crookham of Ashville, Beverly (Roger) Caplinger of Delaware and Millie (Charles) Kerns of Amanda; also numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, at the Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St., Ashville, with a funeral service at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, with Pastor Floyd Hubbell officiating. Interment will follow in Reber Hill Cemetery with AMVETS Post 2256 providing a military service.
