Dr. Edgar William Hedges, 96, was born on Dec. 14, 1920, in Ashville, to his parents, Richard and Anna (Millar) Hedges.
He passed away on Jan. 15, 2017, in Fort Myers, Florida.
Doc is survived by his children, Paula (Brock) Bell and Nancy (Steve) Lyons; grandchildren, Jennifer Bell, Amy Bell, Brad Bell, Andrew Mandovi and Katie Mandovi; great-grandchildren, Emily Bell, Miles Lynch and Molly Lynch; brother, Dr. J. M. Hedges; and many extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Doc is preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Erma (Cromley) Hedges.
Doc was an avid boater, fisherman, golfer and pilot. He was a strong and independent man who devoted his life to his family. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren making them laugh.
Throughout Doc’s life, he became a successful entrepreneur. He put himself through college at The Ohio State University and obtained his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1947. He was a committed veterinarian for over 30 years. He then became a franchisee of McDonald’s until his retirement in 2002.
Doc was a 31st Degree of the Masonic Lodge and a life member of the Forest Country Club.
