Richard Wayne “Dick” Somers, 77, of New Holland, died Thursday, May 25, 2017, at 7:53 p.m. at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, where he had been a patient three weeks.
Dick was born March 11, 1940, in Columbus, to Howard and Veryl Yeager Somers.
He was a 1958 graduate of Atlanta High School and lived most of his life in the New Holland community. He was a retired farmer and electrician.
Dick was a member of the New Holland United Methodist Church, the Pickaway County Farmers Club and the Pickaway County Farm Bureau.
He was a 4-H adviser for over 35 years and had been a member and past president of the Westfall Boosters Club. Dick was an avid biker.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dick is survived by his wife, the former Jeanette Brigner, whom he married July 1, 1961; three children, Sheri Gray and her husband, Richard, of Plain City, Missy Gulick and her husband, Jeff, of Lafayette, Indiana, and Randy Somers and his wife, Deanna, of Canal Winchester; six grandchildren, Bryan (Alyssa) Gray, Tyler Gray and Emily (Billy) Fusiek, Courtney Gulick, Corinne and Sydney Somers; a great-grandson, William Fusiek; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Linda Brigner of Dublin.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in New Holland with the Rev. Bill Weaver, associate pastor at the Lithopolis United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in New Holland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in New Holland.
