Rebecca Jeanne (Leist) Young, 96, of Circleville, died May 25, 2017.
She was born May 20, 1921, in Fairfield County, the daughter of Albert and Grace (Woolever) Leist.
Betty was a talented seamstress and worked for a short time at the Fabric Shop.
A life-long artist, Rebecca’s work was juried into an exhibit at The Cincinnati Museum of Art. She also participated in the Virginia Beach Boardwalk Art Festival.
Rebecca was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a Pickaway Plains Chapter member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a 70-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Circleville Art League and an honorary member of the Amanda Clearcreek Alumni Association. She volunteered for several organizations, including the Gray Ladies.
Rebecca was a FCC licensed amateur radio operator, call sign KA8HED. She enjoyed extensive travel, playing golf, waterskiing, dancing, gardening and playing board games.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, Ned R. Young; her brothers, Donald Leist, Robert Leist and Gerald Leist; and her granddaughter, Rebecca J. Howell Frey.
Her love and laughter will be sorely missed by her three children, Ronald (Judy) Young of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Rosalyn (Dave) Robinette of Chillicothe and Patricia (Bruce) Horn of Flagstaff, Arizona; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; as well as many friends and other family members.
Visitation will be held beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017, at the Wellman Funeral Home in Circleville. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., with burial at Dutch Hollow Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Berger Hospice, 1170 N. Court St., Circleville, OH 43113.
