CIRCLEVILLE – Roundtown Players will be rolling out the red carpet Friday in celebration of its 50th anniversary in Circleville.
The local theater group has performed season after season on the stage at Memorial Hall and will honor its past as well as its future with an expanded version of its annual awards gala this year.
Tahrea Maynard, current board president for Roundtown Players, said the annual gala usually draws just those who have been involved in the most recent season of performances. This year, they hope to draw anyone and everyone who has been involved in Roundtown Players productions over the past half-century.
In addition to presenting awards for the most recent season this year, the group also will honor its long-time members, some of whom were involved from the very beginning. Those members include Wallace and Carol Higgins, who are still active in Roundtown Players, along with Diane Berger and Jim and Ramona Edman. She said Dr. Gary Gillen also has been involved for many years, with his first performance just shortly after the group’s inception in 1967.
The gala will serve as the group’s annual board meeting, with votes affecting the organization as well as the election of board members for the new term. It will also offer a few reprisal performances and a sneak peek at some of the upcoming shows in the 2017-18 season.
Those upcoming shows, she said, also pay homage to Roundtown Players’ many years in Circleville, offering revivals of popular shows from seasons past.
The season kicks off July 7 with Guys and Dolls, offering performances July 7, 8 and 9, and the following weekend on July 14, 15 and 16.
The group also will present The Rocky Horror Show beginning Oct. 6; Our Town beginning Jan. 12, 2018; Something’s Under the Bed beginning March 23, 2018; and The Foreigner beginning May 25, 2018.
Admission to awards gala is free, but guests are asked to reserve tickets ahead of time by visiting rtpawards.eventbrite.com. The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. June 30 at Memorial Hall.
