The excitement continues to escalate as the Powerball jackpot has skyrocketed to an astonishing $1.09 billion! Following Monday night’s drawing, where no ticket matched all six numbers – white balls 19, 24, 40, 42, 56, and red Powerball 23, the Powerball jackpot surged to historic heights. The Power Play multiplier for the draw was 2X.
With no grand prize winner, the jackpot now stands as the fourth-largest Powerball jackpot and the ninth-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history. This places it just below the remarkable $1.128 billion Mega Millions jackpot that was claimed in New Jersey last Tuesday.
Drew Svitko, Powerball Product Group Chair and Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “For lotteries, this is our second consecutive week of being able to offer players an advertised jackpot over $1 billion.” Svitko encouraged players to participate, reminding them that a single ticket holds the potential to win, and a portion of the proceeds supports valuable causes within their state.
Despite the absence of a jackpot victor, over 2.1 million tickets secured cash prizes in the previous Powerball drawing. Six fortunate tickets matched all five white balls, each earning a hefty $1 million prize. These million-dollar tickets were sold in various states, including Florida, Maryland (2), Minnesota, North Carolina, and Virginia. Additionally, 53 tickets across the nation seized $50,000 prizes, with 11 tickets clinching $100,000 prizes.
The upcoming Powerball drawing on Wednesday will mark the 40th drawing since the jackpot was last won on January 1, 2024, by a lucky ticket holder in Michigan. Should a player clinch the jackpot in Wednesday’s draw, they face the choice between an estimated annuitized prize of $1.09 billion or a lump sum payment estimated at $527.3 million, both before taxes.
Powerball enthusiasts can secure their chance at the life-changing jackpot for just $2 per play. Tickets are available in 45 states, along with the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Powerball draws are aired live every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee, with live streams accessible on Powerball.com.
With overall odds of winning a prize at 1 in 24.9 and jackpot odds at 1 in 292.2 million, the fervor surrounding the billion-dollar Powerball jackpot continues to captivate millions nationwide.
