CHILLICOTHE — The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 9 is inviting the public to provide feedback on a proposed slide repair project along U.S. 35 in Ross County.

The proposed project, located at the 23.67-mile mark of U.S. 35 in Scioto Township, involves the installation of a 350-foot sheet pile retaining wall between the highway and the Scioto River. This project aims to address a slide issue in the area and enhance the stability of the roadway.

Key details of the project include:

  • The installation of a retaining wall to prevent further erosion or slide concerns.
  • No new right-of-way will be required for the project.
  • The construction will not impact any rivers, streams, wetlands, or other water bodies in the area.
  • No homes or businesses will be affected or displaced by the work.
  • U.S. 35 will remain open throughout the duration of the project.

The funding for the project will be split, with 80% provided by federal funds and 20% by state funds. The project is currently scheduled to be awarded on February 2, 2026, with an environmental commitment date of April 1, 2025.

Members of the public are encouraged to submit their written comments about the project by February 23, 2025. Feedback can be sent to Brandon Beck, ODOT District 9 Environmental Supervisor, via mail at 650 Eastern Avenue, Chillicothe, Ohio 45601, or by email at [email protected].
