Greenfield, Ohio – On July 1, 2024, the Ross County Sheriff’s Office responded to a theft complaint at an AEP substation. When a Deputy arrived on the scene and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Upon arrival, the Deputy spoke with the caller, who reported that the substation had been broken into. AEP stated that a spool of copper wire and two spools of wiring had been damaged. The intruders gained entry by cutting the barbed wire fence and using a ladder from a nearby solar panel farm to climb over the fence.

AEP mentioned that the job at the substation was nearly complete, so there was not much left to steal. However, the damage to the wiring was significant. The barbed wire fence had already been repaired by the time the Deputy arrived, but AEP had taken photographs of the damage, which was provided to the deputy.

The investigation into the theft and vandalism is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Ross County Sheriff’s Office.
