Ross County is set to receive a $750,000 grant as part of a $22.4 million statewide initiative to improve housing and quality of life across Ohio. The funding, announced by the Ohio Department of Development, aims to enhance access to housing, provide homeownership support, and offer rental assistance to low- and moderate-income families.
The grant awarded to Ross County will be used to rehabilitate six owner-occupied homes and repair 12 others. Additionally, the project will include a fair housing component, benefiting local residents in need of safe and affordable housing. Ross County will partner with the City of Chillicothe in executing these improvements.
Governor Mike DeWine emphasized the importance of safe and stable housing in the state’s ongoing efforts to improve communities. “We want all Ohioans to have a safe and stable place to call home, and these grants support that mission by improving housing, supporting homeownership, and creating opportunities for a better future,” he said.
The funding for this initiative comes from the Ohio Housing Trust Fund, federal Community Development Block Grant, and HOME Investment Partnership Programs. These grants will help preserve and enhance Ohio’s housing stock through a variety of housing-related initiatives, such as home renovation, repair, and rental assistance.
Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development, underscored the significance of these investments. “When families have access to quality housing, it transforms lives and strengthens communities. We are committed to making transformational investments that ensure every Ohioan has the chance to live their best life.”
