CHILLICOTHE, OH – A man was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) and other charges after a reckless driving incident was reported by an off-duty officer.

A officer, who had just finished his shift, called Police Dispatch to report a white Kia, driven by a male, unable to maintain lanes while traveling south on Belleview Avenue towards Plyleys Lane. The officer, following the vehicle, expressed concern for other motorists’ safety and observed the Kia striking a mailbox at 243 Belleview Avenue before stopping at 407 Belleview Avenue.

The officer had the driver, identified as David McClure, detained and was speaking with him when another officer arrived on the scene. McClure exhibited signs of intoxication, including swaying, glassy eyes, and the odor of alcohol. He admitted to having consumed two beers earlier in the day but refused a Standard Field Sobriety Test.

McClure was arrested for OVI and driving on an OVI suspension, which was confirmed through the Law Enforcement Automated Data System (LEADS). After being read his Miranda Rights, McClure was handcuffed and placed in the back of the police cruiser. The Kia, which was blocking traffic, was moved and subsequently towed by Eitels Towing.

McClure continued to refuse any further testing after being informed of the BMV2255 form, resulting in his vehicle being impounded and inventoried. Photographs were taken of the damage to both the property and the vehicle.

McClure was transported to the Ross County Jail, where he received a copy of the BMV2255 form and Citation #54154 for OVI, driving under suspension (DUS) for OVI, hit-skip, and failure to control. He has a court date set for June 24, 2024, at 9:00 AM in the Chillicothe Municipal Court.
