Chillicothe, OH – December 26, 2024 – A local man was arrested on disorderly conduct and resisting arrest charges following a disturbance at 429 E. 2nd St. in the early evening hours.
Officers were dispatched to the residence after receiving reports of disorderly conduct. Upon arrival, they encountered 28-year-old Jacob Salyers, who was highly intoxicated and behaving erratically. Witness informed the officers that Salyers had been damaging their home.
Salyers exhibited slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol. When approached, he handed an officer a half-empty bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey and claimed he had stolen it from the homeowners. Officers attempted to take him into custody, but Salyers refused to comply with their orders, reportedly stating, “I’ll fight for it.”
Despite repeated requests for Salyers to cooperate, he continued to resist. After attempts to calm him failed, officers had to physically restrain him. As he struggled against their hold, Salyers was brought to the ground for safety reasons. During the altercation, he attempted to pull an officer’s leg beneath him, prompting Officer Jonathan Davis to deploy a Taser in an effort to gain control.
After being subdued, Salyers was placed in handcuffs and escorted to a police vehicle. Even then, he resisted getting into the back seat, requiring officers to physically assist him into the vehicle.
Due to the struggle, Officer Ryan McCoy reported discomfort and later noted a contusion and cuts on his right knee. Salyers was transported to the Ross County Jail, where he was booked for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was also taken to Adena Regional Medical Center for a medical evaluation before being processed at the jail.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding public intoxication and disorderly behavior in the community, with police emphasizing the importance of compliance during encounters to ensure safety for both officers and the public.
