Eastern Ross County — The Ross County Grand Jury returned all 15 of their cases Friday, December 1st, 2023, with four open for release to the public. From testimony in the the grand jury in one of the cases, according to the Ross County Prosecutor’s Office:
On December 24th, a Ross County Sheriff’s deputy was on patrol when he encountered a man walking in the roadway of State Route 327.
After lying to the officer, he was identified as 45-year-old Scott V. Acord of McArthur, who had a warrant out of Vinton County for attempted felonious assault.
After being arrested, he was found to have several rounds of ammunition on his person. Acord said he was teaching his son to shoot the day before.
He was also found to be in possession of a pill bottle with tablets of Temazepam (used to treat insomnia) which he said he was not prescribed for him.
And, he had a plastic bag of white crystals in his jacket.
The deputy later found a gun where Acord was standing, though he said he never had a gun and did know about any gun in the area. The gun matched the ammunition he had.
For an indictment on having a weapon under disability, Acord could get up to three years and $10,000 in fines. Additional charges are probably pending after drug results.
