
ROSS COUNTY, OH – The Ross County Health District (RCHD) has released its 2024 annual report, shedding light on vital statistics, public health initiatives, and environmental health programs that impact the community.
Birth and Death Data
The report reveals that Ross County recorded 1,256 births in 2024, with a gender distribution of 47.1% female and 52.9% male. On the other hand, the county saw 950 total deaths, with heart disease remaining the leading cause at 181 cases, followed closely by cancer at 176 cases. Other top causes of death included accidents (78), strokes (71), and chronic lower respiratory diseases (64).
Public Health Nursing Efforts
Public Health Nursing played a pivotal role in vaccine administration, with the PHN Clinic administering 576 COVID-19 vaccines, 708 flu vaccines, and 1,036 other vaccines. Outreach efforts included 25 flu vaccine clinics and 19 immunization clinics across the county. The clinic also recorded 1,586 nurse visits, demonstrating an ongoing demand for health services.
COVID-19 remained the most reported communicable disease in Ross County, with 1,079 confirmed and probable cases in 2024. Other notable diseases included sexually transmitted infections (217 cases), bloodborne pathogens (116), and vaccine-preventable illnesses (99).
Environmental Health and Safety
The report highlights significant efforts in environmental health, including 142 inspections conducted under the sewage program. The commercial plumbing sector saw 43 permits issued, while 12 private water permits were granted. Additionally, RCHD performed 794 aerator inspections and 38 school inspections to ensure safety and compliance.
A key highlight of the report is the WPCLF Loan Forgiveness Program, which assisted 22 families with septic system repairs or replacements. This marks a 57% increase in assistance from 2023, reflecting ongoing efforts to improve sanitation and water quality for county residents.
