Ross County – Investigation Underway After Shooting Incident in South Salem

South Salem, Ross County, Ohio — A shooting incident in South Salem on September 13, 2024, is under investigation by local authorities. The incident reportedly involved a confrontation between a local woman and her ex-boyfriend.

Deputy Jacob Johansen responded to a call reporting gunfire and arrived to find , a witness to the event. The Witness informed authorities that, his neighbor, was involved in a heated argument with her ex-boyfriend, who was reportedly demanding that leave her property. According to the neighbor, the suspect fired two to three shots from a firearm as he was leaving the scene.

Witnesses provided statements to the deputy that the ex boyfriend had been harassing her and accusing her of infidelity. After leaving the property, returned and drove through the yard when the ex confronted him again, and shortly afterward, she heard gunshots coming from his vehicle as he departed. Other Witnesses corroborated hearing the argument and the gunfire but remained inside during the altercation.

No shell casings were found at the scene, and the Greenfield Police Department was unable to make contact wit the suspect.

No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation is ongoing. Deputy Johansen will continue to review statements and seek further evidence to clarify the circumstances of the shooting.
