Chillicothe, OH – On July 16, 2024, Chillicothe Police arrested David Skylar Au in connection with a motor vehicle theft incident after locating him in the 200 block of Caldwell St. with steaks in his pants.

According to Chillicothe Officers, who led the arrest, Au was apprehended and advised of his Miranda Rights, which he acknowledged understanding. During questioning, Au initially denied involvement despite being identified by his sister in surveillance footage wearing the same clothing observed during the theft. Police informed Au that his presence on camera and his sister’s statement implicated him.

Au eventually admitted to being present during the vehicle’s theft, claiming he was merely joyriding with another unidentified male who drove the stolen truck. He mentioned the truck was later abandoned at Poland Park with the keys left inside. Subsequently, Au declined to provide further details.

Upon arrest, a search incident to the arrest uncovered a trailer title belonging to the registered owner of the stolen truck, along with stolen steaks, seasoning, and charcoal concealed on Au’s person from Sack N Save. The stolen items were returned to the store.

Au faces charges including Theft of a Motor Vehicle (F4) under Section 2913.02B2 of the Revised Code, based on probable cause established from his statement. Additionally, he is charged with Receiving Stolen Property (M1) for possession of the trailer title, as well as existing felony indictments from Pike County and warrants from Waverly PD. and charges of theft from the store.

Despite police efforts to locate the stolen truck at Poland Park, it was not found. Colby Arledge provided a written statement regarding the recovered trailer title, which was documented as digital evidence.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further actions are anticipated pending review of surveillance footage by Sack N Save.
