CHILLICOTHE, OH — Two new employees with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) are being hailed as heroes after jumping into action to save a life on their way to orientation.
Eva McClendenen and Scott Freeman, both recently hired at Chillicothe Correctional Institution, were en route to the Corrections Training Academy when they witnessed a serious car crash. A vehicle lost control and struck a telephone pole head-on.
Without hesitation, McClendenen and Freeman rushed to the scene, pulled the driver from the wreckage, and immediately began life-saving measures. After approximately three minutes of CPR, the driver regained consciousness and became responsive.
The ODRC praised the quick-thinking pair in a statement, crediting their swift action with saving the victim’s life.
“These two new staff members went above and beyond before even starting their official duties,” the agency said. “Their bravery and decisive response embody the best of public service.”
Authorities have not yet released details about the driver’s identity or condition but confirmed they were transported for further medical treatment.
McClendenen and Freeman are expected to continue training at the Academy following their heroic intervention.
