The Ross County Park District has planned a weekend of exciting outdoor activities for nature lovers and families alike, running from Friday, April 11 through Sunday, April 13.
The weekend kicks off Friday evening at 6:00 PM with the Wander Women Hike at Maple Grove Prairie (44 Anderson St.). This marks the first Wander Women hike of the year, featuring a ~2-mile walk along the Bluebell Trail, where the seasonal bluebells are expected to be in full bloom along a mostly flat terrain.
On Saturday, April 12, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the annual Earth Gathering Art Festival returns to Yoctangee Park’s Pump House. Attendees can enjoy a full day of earth-friendly art, live music, food, and eco-conscious products and ideas. The festival celebrates creativity and nature, promoting sustainability through art and community engagement.
The weekend wraps up on Sunday, April 13 at 1:00 PM with a Mushroom Hike at Buzzard’s Roost (514 Red Bird Ln.). Naturalist Ted and mushroom expert Homer Elliot will lead the hike, offering a hands-on lesson in identifying fungi and exploring their ecological role.
In addition, the popular endurance race The Buck Fifty will be held April 11–12 throughout the county, including sections of the Paint Creek Recreational Trail. Residents and visitors are encouraged to use caution and yield to runners when necessary.
