Ross County — The county park system has several parks, and several of them have fall events. I caught the leadership of the park district at their tables at the Ohio University Chillicothe Health Fair on Saturday, and asked them what was coming up.

The next event is today, the “Harvest Hurrah” at Buzzard’s Roost. It runs from 2:00 to 5:00 Sunday at the shelterhouse near the A-frame.

Although we had plenty of recent rain, that was still not enough to stop our drought…so no fire is allowed outside, and the cookout may have pre-cooked food. But the rest of the event will happen. From the RCPD events listings:

“It’s the most wonderful time of year to get out and explore. Join us for our Harvest Hoorah, an afternoon of fun seasonal activities the whole family can enjoy!

“The fall festivities will kick off at 2pm with activities for everyone to enjoy. Choose between a special Trail & Treat Hike on the Kids Nature Zone trail, or a guided group hike to the historical cemetery via the Hoggard Trail, led by Ranger Bost.

Pumpkin painting, games, live music, and refreshments around the campfire to follow! End the evening with a special line dancing class taught by Steaphnie Cartee!”

Hear about other fall events from Executive Director Myranda Vance, and Project Manager and Paint Creek Recreational Trail Coordinator Ted Hagarman, in my below interview video.

They also mention another possible bicycle information session session along with free bicycle helmets for kids.

The Ross County Park District has a website, which includes each park, as well as a calendar of events. They also have a Facebook page with frequent updates.
