The Ross County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of K9 Michael Blue, affectionately known as “Mike,” who passed away today after battling cancer. K9 Blue, a dedicated explosives detection dog, was a valued member of the sheriff’s office and will be greatly missed by both his handlers and the community.
Deputy Thomas, K9 Mike’s handler, is especially feeling the loss as Mike was not only his work partner but also a beloved part of his family. The sheriff’s office asks the community to keep Deputy Thomas in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

K9 Blue was not only a member of the Ross County Sheriff’s Office but had also served the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office for many years. During his time with Deputy Dale Thomas, who was the D.A.R.E. officer, K9 Blue played a vital role in both law enforcement duties and community engagement.
As a certified bomb detection dog, K9 Blue was known for his exemplary training and temperament, making him a perfect fit for both the law enforcement and D.A.R.E. programs. “He fits right in. The kids love him,” Deputy Thomas said, reflecting on the special bond Blue shared with the community.
K9 Blue’s dedication and service will not be forgotten, and the Ross County Sheriff’s Office honors his legacy as a loyal and brave member of the team.
