Chillicothe, OH — The Ohio State Highway Patrol will conduct an OVI checkpoint in Ross County tomorrow evening, aimed at identifying and deterring impaired drivers. The checkpoint is funded through federal grants and is part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety.

Lieutenant Melanie L. Provenzano, commander of the Chillicothe Post, emphasized the importance of these checkpoints. “Last year, provisional data showed 672 OVI-related fatal crashes resulting in 1,242 deaths in Ohio,” Provenzano stated. “With state troopers making approximately 25,000 OVI arrests annually, these checkpoints play a crucial role in removing dangerous drivers from our roads.”

The specific location of the checkpoint will be announced on Friday morning, August 16, 2024. The initiative underscores the commitment of local law enforcement to reduce impaired driving and improve overall road safety in the community.
