Chillicothe, OH – A stolen vehicle was recovered on September 2, 2024, after being taken from a halfway house in Chillicothe. The incident has led to an ongoing investigation and a request for an arrest warrant.
Officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at 245 E 4th St, a halfway house where the victium reported that her white 2008 GMC Acadia, had been taken by a roommate, Trina Britt. Britt, a recent arrival at the facility, had never been given permission to use the vehicle.
The victim also a patient at the facility explained that the keys to her Acadia had been removed from the house, and Britt, who had been at the halfway house for less than a week, left without informing other residents. Witnesses reported seeing Britt’s absence but did not see her take the vehicle. The residents suspect that Britt may have left to procure drugs and avoid withdrawal symptoms.
The stolen vehicle was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database, and the vehicle was reported as stolen. Additionally, Britt caused damage to a fence while leaving the property, which was photographed, and the property’s residential adviser was notified.
An extensive search for the vehicle in Chillicothe was unsuccessful. However, at approximately 6:50 PM, the West Jefferson Ohio State Highway Patrol notified the Chillicothe Police Department that the vehicle had been located abandoned at the Pickaway/Franklin county line. The vehicle was found without keys.
Trina Britt remains at large, and it is believed she may have returned to Franklin County, her hometown.
Due to Britt’s unauthorized use of Griffith’s vehicle and her disappearance from the halfway house, an arrest warrant for Trina Britt is being requested. The warrant will be filed through the Chillicothe Municipal Court. The investigation is ongoing.
