Chillicothe, OH — A routine traffic stop on October 10, 2024, resulted in a drug investigation after officers discovered drug paraphernalia during their interaction with the vehicle’s passengers.
Officers were patrolling the area when they observed a black Toyota Tacoma, registered to David Wolford, parking in a known narcotics distribution zone. Following the vehicle’s departure, Officers Morgan Music and Shane Simmons initiated a traffic stop on East 8th Street after noting that the driver, Wolford, had failed to signal a turn.
Upon approaching the vehicle, Officer Music interacted with passenger Danielle Dunn. During this exchange, a glass pipe with residue was observed protruding from Dunn’s slipper. As she exited the vehicle, the slipper fell off, causing the pipe to drop into a nearby storm drain. Dunn acknowledged the incident, stating, “I can get it out, it’s just a crack pipe.”
At this time officers detained Dunn and advised her of her Miranda Rights which she stated she understood. I asked Dunn if she had anything else on her person. Dunn claimed to have a “key” and “napkin” in her bra but nothing else.
After advising Dunn of her Miranda Rights, Officer Music requested Officer Katrina Hallam to conduct a search of Dunn’s person. During this search, a folded piece of paper fell from her bra, which upon inspection contained a white rock substance believed to be crack cocaine.
Dunn was subsequently detained, and the white substance was seized and photographed for evidence. Although the pipe could not be retrieved from the storm drain, photographs were taken. Dunn was issued a summons for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with a court date set for October 18, 2024, in Chillicothe Municipal Court. The substance will be sent to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) for analysis, with additional charges pending based on the results.
Wolford was issued a warning for failing to signal and was released without further incident. Both individuals were informed that the investigation remains ongoing.
