PICKAWAY COUNTY, OH — The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a troubling second case of animal cruelty after a second miniature horse was fatally shot within five days of a similar incident.

On April 10, a 15-year-old mini horse was discovered shot and killed near State Route 56 East. Authorities believe the shooting occurred sometime between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m. that day. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

This follows an earlier case reported on April 5, when a mini horse was found shot dead in the area of US-22 in Williamsport. Shortly after the incident was reported to the sheriff’s office and began circulating on social media, a man identified as Kyle Hansen of Williamsport contacted the horse’s owners and admitted to the shooting. According to the report, Hansen claimed his dog had entered the horse’s enclosure, prompting him to shoot the animal. He was charged and later released.

The recent shootings have alarmed local residents and animal advocates. The sheriff’s office has not confirmed whether the two incidents are connected.

Anyone with information related to the April 10 shooting is urged to contact the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
