USA – The Trump Administration has moved to defend a male-only system of the selective services, after a ruling has been made that is its unconstitutional because it discriminates.
A appeal on April 22, 2019 is trying to force the governments had to either force women to register for the draft or eliminate the draft completely. U.S. Judge Gary Miller declared the current system unconstitutional in February but didn’t order the Selective Service to Change anything.
According to the justice department mandating women to register would be problematic.
“It would impose draft registration on all eligible American women by judicial fiat before Congress has considered how to address the matter,” argued Justice Department lawyer Michael Gerardi. “No party before this court represents the interests of those who would be impacted by this change.”
The law now forces men to register for the draft within 30 days of their 18th birthday.
