PICKAWAY COUNTY, OH – April 25, 2025 — A semi-truck crash late Thursday night left one man seriously injured and shut down a major Central Ohio highway for more than 12 hours.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on U.S. Route 23 near Orr Road when a Western Express semi lost control, veered off the roadway at high speed, and overturned down an embankment. The driver sustained serious injuries in the crash.

First responders arriving at the scene immediately requested a medical helicopter. MedFlight landed on U.S. 23 and transported the driver to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. His current condition has not been released.

The trailer was loaded with cargo, and the crash resulted in a significant fuel spill — with hundreds of gallons reportedly leaking from the truck. The combination of the overturned semi, fuel leakage, and cargo cleanup prompted a full closure of U.S. 23 through the overnight hours.
Crews remained on scene conducting crash reconstruction and environmental cleanup. The highway was fully reopened by approximately 8 a.m. Friday morning.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by local authorities.
