Sheriff’s Cruiser Involved in Crash with Teen Driver in Logan County

MARYSVILLE, Ohio – A teenage driver and a Logan County Sheriff’s deputy were among several injured in a collision on Sunday, March 3rd.

Details:

  • The crash occurred around 5:18 PM at the intersection of U.S. Route 68 and County Road 57 in Lake Township.
  • A 15-year-old driver attempting a left turn onto County Road 57 in a 2016 Ford Explorer collided with a northbound Logan County Sheriff’s cruiser driven by Deputy Benny Stacey (27, Bellefontaine). The cruiser had its emergency lights activated at the time.
  • The impact caused both vehicles to veer off the road. The Ford overturned, while the cruiser came to rest after making further contact with the Ford.

Injuries:

  • The teenage driver sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Mary Rutan Health.
  • A passenger in the Ford, 44-year-old Heath Murphy of Bellefontaine, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Grant Medical Center.
  • Deputy Stacey and his passenger, 29-year-old Zach Sheeley of Bellefontaine, also sustained minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to Mary Rutan Health.

Investigation:

  • The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
