Skimmer Discovered at Local Ross County Grocery Store Part of Statewide Scam

Ross County, OH – On July 16, 2024, a skimmer was discovered at the Save A Lot store located at 1700 Western Ave. The store supervisor, discovered the skimmer on July 14, 2024, during a routine check of the registers. The supervisor waited a couple of days to report the incident to show the skimmer to employees as a precautionary measure.

The skimmer was collected and will be sent to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) for further testing. The incident has raised concerns about the increasing number of skimmers being found in the area. Detective from the Washington Court House Police Department reached out to investigate and shared information about similar cases in Newark and Columbus. According to the report ten summers have been found at the Grocery stores across the area.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to identify the suspects and their vehicle. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Ross County Sheriff’s Office. This incident serves as a reminder for businesses and individuals to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to prevent identity theft and fraud.
