Southern Ohio Deputy Shot in Officer Involved Shooting

On Saturday September 28, 2024, at approximately 10:16 p.m. officers with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Domestic Violence Complaint at 17 Township Road 1138, Proctorville, Ohio. Once officers entered the residence a female stated that the suspect, Charles Eugene Martin, Il, was intoxicated and was brandishing a firearm.

Officers confronted the suspect, and the suspect fired a shot striking a Deputy in the leg. The Deputy returned fire striking the suspect. Officers retreated and surrounded the house and after approximately two hours Deputies along with Officers from several departments were able to regain entry into the home and retrieve the suspect without further incident. The suspect suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital for medical care.

Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation “BCI” is on scene and investigating. The Deputy is being treated currently. The suspect is in police custody, at a local hospital being treated at this time. The suspect has been charged with Felonious Assault and Attempted Murder.

No further information is available at this time.
