Ross County — With the coming of spring, many annual local tourism events are coming up…in addition to the big one next week.
I asked Melody Young, director of the Ross-Chillicothe Convention & Visitors Bureau, about “World Heritage Week.” Four parks in Ross County will be part of the celebration of the World Heritage “Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks” next week, which you can learn about in my main story on the Scioto Post.
Young said it is a busy spring for Ross County, with the 25th anniversary “Earth Gathering” this Saturday, the Feast of the Flowering Moon at the end of May, and the June Kenworth Truck Parade and Southern Ohio Forest Rally. (The rally appears to be mostly east and south of Ross County this year.)

She also pointed out that TOSRV, the classic bicycle “Tour of the Scioto River Valley,” has a new format. After being disrupted by Covid, this 64th anniversary event is now returning to spring, and will have more of a festival format. Multiple routes out of Yoctangee Park focus in and around Ross County on May 16th through the 18th. (It looks like it is planned to be more comfortable for less-experienced riders, with three level routes, in addition to two hilly routes.)
Young says plans continue for a huge anticipated rise in tourism because of the World Heritage listing. “Wayfinding” signs in Ross County are part of that process, and the last major one was installed on US 23 across from Adena Regional Medical Center recently.

Young says the recreational trail bridge over High Street will finally be getting a “Chillicothe” logo, but possibly without the intended sunburst design because of wind resistance.
