AMANDA, OHIO — As the only school to field competitors in all five Public Speaking Career Development Events (CDEs), Amanda-Clearcreek FFA members captured first-place titles in two contest areas on March 2nd. Siblings, Aaron and Sara Sharp, had an even more rare feat by each taking home state titles in their respective CDE.

Aaron Sharp, junior, placed first in the state of Ohio in the Extemporaneous Public Speaking CDE. This contest requires participants to use a randomly chosen topic from a pool of 125 possible topics. Then, contestants must research the topic for 30 minutes, and deliver a 3-5 minute speech in front of a panel of judges. Aaron will compete again at the National FFA Convention this fall in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he will represent not only the A-C FFA Chapter but also the state of Ohio.

Sara will also advance to the National FFA Convention, representing her chapter and the state of Ohio.

Kiley Holbrook, junior, placed second in the state of Ohio in the Advanced Creed Public Speaking competition. In this contest, participants are required to recite the FFA Creed, and then answer five minutes of questions relating to the creed.

Placing top six in the state of Ohio, Allie Poston, junior, competed in the Advanced Prepared Public Speaking CDE. This contest requires members to give a 6-8 minute speech regarding an agricultural topic of their choice. Allie placed 3rd in the preliminary round.

Morgan Anderson, sophomore, placed top ten in the state of Ohio in the Beginning Prepared Public Speaking CDE. In this contest, the FFA contestant is required to give a 5-7 minute speech about an agricultural topic of their choice. Morgan placed 5th in the preliminary round.

In addition to the five individual Public Speaking CDEs, the Agricultural Sales CDE team also competed at the state level March 5th after placing first at their district contest. The members of this team consisted of Paige Hinton, Ellie Sahr, Jullian Scott, and Noah Smith. The team placed second at the state competition.
