ASHVILLE, OH – A fire early Monday morning displaced a family and caused significant damage to a mobile home in Ashville. The incident, which occurred at a residence on Duvall Road, was reported at 11:17 a.m. on November 18, 2024, and prompted a response from multiple fire departments.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found that the residents had already evacuated the home, including a woman and her two-year-old grandson. The woman was assisted in escaping the fire by two bystanders. According to authorities, one person had already left for work earlier that morning, and a teenage relative had been at school at the time of the blaze.

The fire was quickly extinguished by the Harrison Township, Scioto Township, and Rickenbacker fire departments. Firefighters were able to contain the flames to the trailer, but not before it suffered significant damage. The nearby trailers on Lot 105 and Lot 107 were inspected for potential heat or smoke damage, with photographs taken to document the scene.

Tragically, the family’s dog, which had been inside the trailer, did not survive the fire, succumbing to smoke inhalation.

The residents of the home, who had only moved into the trailer six months prior, did not have homeowner’s insurance, which may complicate efforts to recover from the loss.

The Red Cross was called to assist the family, and emergency services also reached out to the medical services company providing oxygen to the woman to notify them of the situation and ensure she received the necessary equipment after losing her home.

At 1:30 p.m., an investigator from the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s office arrived on the scene to begin an investigation into the cause of the fire. By 1:49 p.m., representatives from the American Red Cross arrived to provide assistance and support to the displaced family.

This is the second trailer fire in this park this month, the last fire caused two people to be sent to the hospital.

The fire remains under investigation, and authorities are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
