PICKAWAY – The Teays Valley Educational Foundation awarded a grant to Teays Valley West Middle School eighth grade language arts teacher Laura Nungester for $894.36. This grant will be used to purchase graphic novels for students to use in groups during their book club. Students take part in book clubs while in class, which provides them the opportunity to read similar titles with other students who have similar interests in the same titles.
“The Educational Foundation has provided our classroom with titles that are incredibly important for today’s world. In these graphic novels, students will explore the importance of social justice, personal identity, human interaction, history of ‘us’ today and how to be the change the world’s needs today,” Nungester said. “Graphic novels provide a new look at reading and what it means to be consumers of literature. Thank you, TVEF, for being such an integral part of our students’ reading and writing lives.”
