BOURNEVILLE, OH — A toddler was found playing unsupervised in the streets of Bourneville on January 2, 2025, leading to a quick response from local authorities.
Deputy Stanley of the Ross County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Cropp Street after a report was made about the young child wandering the alley behind a residence without an adult present. The child, only two years old, was dressed in a t-shirt and a pull-up.
A local resident, spotted the child and immediately took him back to her home. She contacted the Sheriff’s office and awaited the deputy’s arrival. Upon investigation, Deputy Stanley found the child in good health, playing with toys in the living room and appearing well-cared-for.
The child’s father, Dylan Lewis, was later located after a brief search by a male subject in the house. Lewis explained that he had been napping on the couch and believed his child must have woken up and left the home unnoticed.
Deputies discovered this wasn’t the first such incident. In February 2024, a similar situation occurred, when the child exited the residence and crossed US-50 while his father was asleep.
Child Protective Services (CPS) responded to the scene and began creating a safety plan for the child. Deputy Stanley cleared the scene after ensuring that appropriate measures were being taken to safeguard the child’s well-being.
