Mar-a-Lago, FL – Former President Donald J. Trump announced that he had a lengthy and productive phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, discussing key global issues, including the Ukraine conflict, the Middle East, energy, artificial intelligence, and the strength of the U.S. dollar.
According to Trump, both leaders reflected on the historical alliance between the United States and Russia, particularly during World War II, and expressed a mutual desire to end the ongoing war in Ukraine. In a notable moment, Trump said that Putin referenced his campaign motto, “COMMON SENSE,” as they discussed potential future cooperation.
Trump revealed that the two leaders agreed to work closely together, even expressing interest in visiting each other’s nations. He also stated that they would begin immediate negotiations with Ukraine, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff leading the U.S. delegation.
“I will be calling President Zelenskyy right now to inform him of the conversation,” Trump stated, emphasizing his belief that the war would not have happened if he were president. However, he stressed that the conflict must now come to an end to prevent further loss of life.
Trump also thanked Putin for facilitating the release of Marc Fogel, an American detained in Russia, whom he personally greeted at the White House. He concluded by expressing confidence that this diplomatic effort will lead to a successful resolution of the war.
